Jews and Revolution: Socialists, Anarchists, and Radicals in the Modern World

from $239.00

with Tony Michels

When
Wednesdays · 8 weeks · Starts March 11
8:00-9:30 pm Eastern/ 5:00-6:30 pm Pacific

This course explores the history of Jews and revolutionary movements in different countries from Russia to the United States, and elsewhere. We will focus on the lives and ideas of individuals, many of which are still relevant today. The course provides an opportunity to read and discuss classic texts by prominent thinkers, as well as writings by lesser-known individuals. Topics include the interplay of socialist ideologies and Jewish nationalism, responses to antisemitism, and meanings of democracy. A question that runs through the course is the relation of the past to the present: What can we learn from this history and how does it shape the present?

This class will be recorded and available to enrolled students to watch later.

This class is not eligible for rabbinical school credit.

Cost

This course is available at a sliding scale cost of $359 (the true cost), $299 or $239.
