Holy Chutzpah: Building your Jewish Meaning-Making Toolkit

from $72.00

When
Mondays · 3 Weeks · May 4, 11, 18
3:00-4:30 pm ET / 12:00-1:30 pm PT

Every Unbound Jew needs chutzpah in their toolkit. Throughout the ages, Judaism has survived because of leaders and laypeople taking ritual and philosophical matters into their own hands, innovating with spiritual self-esteem. Today, too often we hear the refrain of "being a bad Jew", or experiences of anxiety about "doing it right". This class tackles those sentiments head-on through history, oral traditions, and creative action.

Whether you've already got unshakeable Jewish interpretive power or you're looking to cultivate more holy chutzpah, students of all backgrounds will engage in questions of authenticity, power, inheritance, story, and "chiddush" -- innovation. In this class, we'll be exploring different lenses on Jewish meaning-making, whether about texts, diaspora, or our own lives. By exploring midrash, folktales, histories, the haggadah, and even comix, students will sharpen their tools of holy chutzpah, claiming our inheritance: feeling empowered to innovate in our tradition of innovation.

This class will be recorded and available to enrolled students to watch later.

Cost

This course is available at a sliding scale cost of $126 (the true cost), $99 or $72.

If you can afford the full price, we hope you will choose that option, which allows us to continue to offer lower rates and scholarships to those who otherwise would not be able to access this learning because of financial barriers.

If you need financial aid beyond the sliding scale, please fill out this simple form, and we will get right back to you.
