A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing: Judaism and Phish

from $72.00

Jessy Dressin

3 weeks
Tuesdays: 4-5:30 pm PT / 7-8:30 pm ET

April 30 · May 7 · May 14

Over the course of three sessions we will explore questions like "Why do so many Jews like the band Phish?" "What connections are there to be made between Jewish wisdom and Phish lyrics" and "Why is the Phish experience such a rich setting to imagine the ancient pilgrimage experience and ritual performed when the Temple stood on Jerusalem?".

We will look at text sources, engage in conversation on topics around communal code, insider and outsider experience, identity and spiritual quest. These sessions will also include guest facilitators, Oren Kroll-Zeldin and Ariella Werden-Greenfield, co-editors of the recently published book: This is Your Song Too: Phish and Contemporary Jewish Identity.
