Heeb Magazine: Judaism Unbound Episode 483 - Mik Moore, Libby Lenkinski

The "semi-quarterly glossy home for subversive Jewish culture" during the Bush years — better known as Heeb Magazine -- is back! Re-launching as Heeb Media, this storied publication is returning, and two of the people behind its revitalization -- Mik Moore and Libby Lenkinski -- join Judaism Unbound for a conversation about reconnecting with those who knew and loved Heeb the first time around, along with building a new audience of younger readers.

[1] ShavuotLIVE, Judaism Unbound's annual 24-hour extravaganza of Jewish learning and unlearning, is returning! From May 31st at 8 pm ET through June 1st at 8 pm ET, join hundreds of your friends from all around the world for the biggest event of our calendar year. You can register at bit.ly/2025shavuot!

[2] Learn more about Heeb (past and present) by heading to HeebMedia.com! Learn more about Mik Moore via this link, and Libby Lenkinski via this link.

[3] For a recent piece, which Libby Lenkinski co-authored with Rania Batrice in the New York Times, see “‘No Other Land’ won an Oscar. Many People Hope You Don’t See It.”

[4] Lenkinski mentions a recent study that Albi (an organization she founded) helped to lead. Check out the study, entitled “Unserved and Underserved Jewish Research,” here.

[5] Moore mentions a podcast episode of On the Nose, Jewish Currents’s podcast, which explores tensions around the question of secularism and religion across generations. Listen in to that episode via this link.

[6] Lenkinski opens up questions about how we conceptualize the Jewish canon. For past Judaism Unbound episodes exploring canon, see Episode 326: Whose Canon is it Anyway? - Marques Hollie, Episode 401: Expanding the Canon - Haley Finn, Zachariah Ezer, and/or our full playlist of Apocry-Fest Hanukkah episodes (which explore the realm of Jewish apocrypha, and how that realm can help us expand/explode notions of canon).
