Judaism Unbound Episode 355: What if Artists Ran the Show? — Ayin Press - Penina Eilberg-Schwartz, Tom Haviv, Eden Pearlstein

Ayin Press is an artist-run publishing platform, production studio, and research collective -- rooted in Jewish culture and emanating outward. Dan Libenson and Lex Rofeberg are joined by Tom Haviv, Eden Pearlstein, and Penina Eilberg-Schwartz — three people who play a central role in the work of Ayin Press, as publishers and editors. Together, they consider the power of having organizations (and publications/presses) that are consciously artist-led, the importance of publications that dance between both sides of the digital/print divide, and the meaning of their name, "Ayin."

[1] We strongly encourage our listeners to head over to AyinPress.org to fully immerse in their creative work!

[3] The three guests mention a few specific elements of Ayin’s digital work:

[4] Pearlstein and Haviv connected through their shared love of letters — something Pearlstein calls “lettrism.” For a powerful music-video, revolving around letters of the Hebrew alphabet — created by Pearlstein in collaboration with other members of Darshan, click here.

[5] The three guests mention the importance of “world-building” to their work. For a past Judaism Unbound episode that centers that notion, see Episode 273: Trans & Jewish World-Building - Laynie Soloman, Becky Silverstein. For a past episode that dives into what Ayin names as “de-silo-ing” (art, from politics, from spirituality, and more), see Episode 156: Creating Jewish Theatre - Aaron Henne.
