Rosh Hashanah…No Big Deal: Judaism Unbound Episode 344 - Dan and Lex

Dan Libenson and Lex Rofeberg are here to say that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are solid -- as warm-up holidays. In this episode they look ahead to the festival of Sukkot, which comes after the two observances generally called "The High Holidays," but which historically may have been the biggest festival of them all! They ask why Sukkot, despite its initial glory, became a second-tier holiday over time -- and consider whether, in our own time, there may be good reason to re-elevate it.

[1] So Dan and Lex mostly schmoozed about Sukkot in this episode. But if you do want to hear some of their approaches to the Torah and Haftarah readings of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, see any of these bonus episodes from a few years back:

[2] For a wide variety of scholarly approaches to the festival of Sukkot, see TheTorah.com’s Sukkot section!

[3] Lex alludes to a Theatre Dybbuk production about Hak’hel — the once-every-7-years gathering, described in the Torah, that takes place on Sukkot. Learn more about the production, entitled Assemble: Modern spin | Ancient Celebration, via this link.
