Judaism Unbound Episode 336: Everywhere is Jewish - Dan and Lex

Dan and Lex have some questions: What counts (in most people’s minds) as a "Jewish space?" What should be counted as "Jewish space?" What would be different about Judaism, if we sought to build more creative forms of Jewish space? What about "Jewifying" spaces that are not specifically-Jewish? What's different about Jewish spaces that are indoors versus those that are outside?

In this conversation, they explore all these questions and more, as they reflect on the 3-episode mini-series -- recorded on-location at Leichtag Commons -- that concluded last week.

[2] Dan and Lex spoke a bit about how some JCCs are creatively mobilizing their spaces in this episode. For more on the shifting nature of JCCs today, see Episode 66: Jewish? Community? Center? - Zack Bodner.

[3] Lex mentions the New Voices/Judaism Unbound fellowship, in the context of creating positions in which employees would work for multiple organizations simultaneously. Guess what?? Applications are currently open for our 2022-23 edition of this fellowship, and you (or an 18-22 year-old you love!) can apply here!

[4] Dan references Miriam Terlinchamp’s work in a brief moment, and Lex promised to put it in the shownotes. Here is her appearance on Judaism Unbound, which will help to contextualize what Dan was saying: Episode 113: Embrace the Weird - Miriam Terlinchamp.

[5] For an example of a large-scale “multi-local” project, Lex reference Moishe House. Get a sense of what he meant by clicking here! You can also listen in to Episode 19: Moishe House - David Cygielman. For a smaller-scale version of a “multi-local” project, Lex references Shmita Hives. Learn more about what he was getting at by listening to Episode 311: Shmita Hives - Asher Edes, Alexander Grace.
